You've invested a great deal of your time, energy, and even emotion into what you do. It is a part of you, something you're passionately dedicated to and duly proud of. While it's tempting to tell your entire story—how novel your product is or all the various services your organization provides—the only way you'll be heard is if you stick to a simple, focused message of how you provide solutions to the challenges government is facing and what you offer matches what the government funds.
Always be succinct and talk in terms of problem, solution and results to make your message hit home. Time is currency in Washington, D.C. and the less of it you take away from a staffer or elected official, the better off you'll be in achieving your goals.
