Organizing Advocacy Campaigns

Goal:

Build relationships for and raise the profile of a new statewide nonprofit for healthy food access in order access state funding to expand programming

Results:

Secured more than $4M in state funding in 6 years to expand programming as well as increased federal funding as a result of state support

Educated the administration, agencies, and legislators on the program and the need for the state using tailored messaging based on priorities

Developed relationships with the Department of Health and Office of Children’s Initiatives that led to collaborative projects and funding to support and expand programming

Organized a Statehouse Days to bring together partners in healthy food access to meet with legislators and educate them on the need for more support and funding

  • More than 20 advocates met with more than 40 legislators in one day to advocate for increased funding and support
  • More than 100 registrations to the Statehouse Day reception including many legislators
  • Keynote addresses by legislators given legislative champion awards

Built relationships with powerful legislative champions who have carried legislative asks, attended events, served as keynote speakers, and provided support letters to the further the mission of the nonprofit
