A New Era in Women’s Health
From G2G Founder Liz Powell, Esq., MPH
Our Chicago event, “New Era in Women’s Health” was wonderful thanks to all who came together to share their ideas, innovations, and goals! We had a great audience attend, heard from moving speakers, and enjoyed insightful discussions about the problems we continue to face with racism, sexism, and unconscious bias in healthcare. Persistent issues include lack of sex-based data collection and analysis; insufficient representation of women and especially women of color in clinical trials; underfunded women’s health innovation; and underappreciated need for systemic change in women’s health.
Change is happening in women’s health! Increased awareness and interest among all sectors as well as Members of Congress is pushing the needle. Leaders in Congress are determined to create better outcomes in pressing areas like maternal health, menopause, and breast cancer. Positive policy shifts are already happening with Medicaid expansion, new bills introduced on Capitol Hill, and more male advocates eager to work with women leaders on innovative legislation.
We closed with ways for all of us to accelerate that shift. Being sure you and your community are registered to vote, voting, talking to your friends and colleagues about voting (and specifically voting for women’s health), asking candidates about their stance on women’s health, advocating to all levels of government, and keeping up a drumbeat of sharing our stories as well as the alarming statistics on these gaps that continue to harm the health of women are all key strategies to this work.
Vote for women’s health on November 5th and engage your community to become advocates and activists for change!
