Find out the winner of the Shauna M. Sorrells Grant Program

Sam is an intern and a rising senior at the University of Chicago, where he is majoring in Political Science with a minor in Education. He has taught in elementary and middle school settings in his hometown of Shaker Heights, interned on a Congressional campaign, and served as a Research Intern at Honesty for Ohio Education, a statewide education advocacy coalition. There, he developed two original deliverables: a comprehensive dataset tracking school board campaign finance and post-election outcomes in major Ohio counties, and a step-by-step organizing guide to help advocates navigate local education systems across the state. Sam has also been active with the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics. After graduation in 2026, he is considering a career in education policy, law, or public service — with long-term aspirations to run for elected office.
